Contract Opportunities for Small
Businesses & Contracting Basics
Small Business Assistance in General.
 | If you are a small business and you are not listed in the SBA's Dynamic
Small Business Database, you may be missing opportunities. You can
self-enter data into this database, if you qualify as a small business
(see if you qualify).
You first need to create a record in the Central Contractor's Registry
(CCR) and then, on the last page of that
registration, you will be given an opportunity to create a record in the
Dynamic Small Business Database.

 | Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTAC). PTACs are
federally funded programs situated in every part of New England and New York,
as well as around the rest of the country, to help businesses find contracting
and subcontracting opportunities and help them to understand the contracting
process. Find your PTAC. |
 | Small Business Administration.
Find out about the SBA's various programs to assist small businesses,
particularly as to the HUBZone Program, Small Disadvantaged Businesses, Woman
Owned Small Businesses, and
small business size
standards. |
 | Small Business Development Centers. These are small business
assistance programs located throughout the country to provide management
assistance to current and prospective small business owners. SBDCs offer
one-stop assistance to individuals and small businesses by providing a wide
variety of information and guidance in central and easily accessible branch

Small Disadvantaged Businesses (SDB)
 | This small business designation is obtained only through certification
of the SBA. Find out about this
program. |
 | For businesses that are both socially and economically disadvantaged,
there is a special category of SDB known as
8(a), which
required additional SBA certification. |
Woman Owned Small Businesses (WOSB)
 | This is a self-certifying category, with regard to contracts with the
federal government. However, WOSBs are not automatically considered SDBs,
which require a showing of proof to the SBA during the
SDB certification process.

 | Woman's Business Centers.
This program is administered by the SBA's office of Women's Business
Ownership. The Centers provide long-term training, mentoring and
counseling on a variety of topics. |
 | Contract Assistance for Women
Business Owners. CAWBO is a new SBA program designed to increase
federal contracting opportunities for women-owned small business.

Historical Black College/Universities
Small Businesses located in Historically Underutilized Business Zones
(HUB-Zone)
 | If your small business is located in one of these zones, you may be
eligible for the HUB-Zone
program. |
Veteran Owned Small Businesses (VOSB)
Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSB)
 | This is a self-certifying category and is available to anyone who has
suffered from any degree of service related disability. |
 | The same resources available to the VOSB are of assistance to those
businesses in this category. |
